LARGE- The family of Dr. Harley John Large are deeply saddened to announce his death October 6, 2017 at St. Paul's Hospital after a very brief illness, with family by his side. Harley was born Jan. 10, 1926 near Yorkton, SK to Audrey (Anne) and Sidney Large. He went to school in Yorkton, then attended the U. of Alberta, graduating from dentistry in 1949. He returned to Yorkton and married the love of his life, Ruth Neelin, on Jan 10, 1950. Together they raised three daughters, Cheryl, Wenda and Barbara. He was a dentist in Yorkton until his retirement in 1991. Harley had many interests. He was active in the Rotary Club, an avid duck and goose hunter and fisherman. He played both viola and clarinet in several local musical groups. His ukulele skills at singsongs around a campfire were legendary. He was also a skilled bridge player.  He particularly loved working on his acreage outside Yorkton, where he planted thousands of trees and created a wildlife preserve. He and Ruth moved to the acreage in 1976. They moved to The Yorkton Bentley retirement home in 2010, then to Preston Park 2 in Saskatoon in 2012 to be closer to family and health care. In Jan., 2017 Harley and Ruth moved to Sherbrooke Community Center due to their declining health. Everywhere they lived they made new wonderful friends. Harley was a wonderful father, uncle, friend, grandfather and great-grandfather. There are innumerable stories of his love, humor, support and compassion. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth; his 2 sisters Colleen Millar and Marcia (Ed) LeClaire; his children, Cheryl (Norm) Fraser, Wenda (David) Saganski and Barbara Large (Gordon Holinaty); 6 grandchildren, Kevin (Meghan) Saganski, Colin (Kaleigh) Saganski, Jeff (Sarah) Saganski, Carla Holinaty (Nathan Vanthuyne), Laura (Ryan) Prestupa and Stephen (Rae) Holinaty; as well as 7 great-grandchildren, Jack, Liam, Maggie, Callie, Owen, Claire and Alice, with an eighth due in February. The family would like to thank the staff of all of their homes as well as the staff of St. Paul's Emergency for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 19 at 2 pm at Sherbrooke Community Center Chapel. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home, Saskatoon, SK (306-477-4400).
