Nick Kucher, husband of Eugenia of Yorkton, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 78 years of age. Nick passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born to Alex and Mary Kucher on the family farm located between Colonsay and Viscount on February 3, 1939. The family later moved to a farm in the Insinger area which was where he grew up. He attended Aysgarth School and then left to begin work for the CP Railway crew, using some of his first earnings to buy his family a tractor for the farm. A few years later, he began working construction in Saskatoon and continued on in this industry eventually becoming a general contractor in Yorkton. Though he left home young, Nick regularly returned to Insinger to visit friends and family. It is there that he met Eugenia (Jeany) and on July 26, 1969 they were married. Nick and Jeany raised their two children, Trent and Tara, in Yorkton, in the house he built. Many visitors passed through that house - family and friends - and very few left without having a drink or two, or three and perhaps just as many card games. Nick enjoyed sports. He played fastball for a number of years with the Insinger Cardinals and coached Trent's little league baseball teams. He also very much enjoyed spending time in nature - hunting, fishing and picking mushrooms. Watching sports also provided him a lot of enjoyment (and frustration). Nick will be dearly missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his wife Jeany of more than 47 years, son Trent of Peoria, Illinois, daughter Tara of Regina and sister Edith of Yorkton. He is predeceased by his parents Alex and Mary Kucher, brother Peter (Mabel) Kucher, sisters Mary (Alfred) Wilke and Sophie (George) Choboter and brother-in-law Mike Kreklewetz. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, July 9, 2017 from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The funeral service was held on Monday, July 10, 2017 from Holy Transfiguration Church with Very Rev. Mel Slashinsky as Celebrant. The cross bearer was Terry Hutzul. Cantor, Yvonne Panchuk, assisted by members of the Parish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. Honourary bearers were Ken Dorush, Maurice Kostichuk, Elgin McLelland and Albert Pobereznek. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jerry Essar, Bernie Fisher, Conrad Hnatiuk, Ryan Hutzul, Peter Moroz and Roman Wilgosh serving as the casket bearers.
