It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Kinaschuk of the Kamsack and District Nursing Home, formally of Arran, SK, on January 15, 2012 at the age of 83 years. Sylvia was born on March 21, 1928 to John & Tena Dutchession in Arran, SK. She attended Arran school to completion and was preparing to go to Nursing school when she met Mike Kinaschuk of the Vesna district. She married Mike on July 12, 1947. In 1950 they moved to Arran where Mike managed the Credit Union and sold S.G.I. Insurance. Mike and Sylvia were blessed with two girls, Sharon & Joanne. In 1957 Sylvia had a major operation which left her partially incapacitated, but with God's help and her remarkable will, she carried on with life cheerfully and in good spirits. Sylvia didn't let her disability deter her, she ran the household and in the summer could be found pursuing her passion of nurturing her vast vegetable and flower gardens. Sylvia and Mike loved to travel. They attended three World Fairs in Seattle, Montreal and Vancouver, as well as numerous trips to visit family and friends across Canada. Sylvia loved to entertain guests and would go above and beyond to make sure all who visited felt welcome. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her unwavering faith in God gave her the strength and courage to live her life to the fullest. Sylvia will be sadly missed by her daughters: Sharon Beitel (Marty) of Kamloops, BC and Joanne Zarchikoff (Ron) of Kamsack, SK; grandchildren: Cory & Tara Beitel; Darren Holoboff, Joscelyn Symak (Lee) and Maureen Holoboff; great grandchildren: Branden Smandych, Timothy Holoboff and Seth Symak. Brother Lorne Dutchession (Josephine), step brother Bill Kushniryk (Isobel); sister-in-law Vera Kinaschuk as well as numerous nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her parents John & Tena Dutchession, her husband Mike, her brothers Myroslaw, George (Stella), sister Sonia Hordichuk (Walter) and step-mother Annie Kushniryk. Prayer services were held on Sunday evening, January 22, 2012 and the Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, January 23, all from St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arran. Rev. Father Basil Malowany was the Celebrant, and Cantor, Angela Malowany led parish members in the singing of the responses. The Epistle reader was Cory Beitel. The crossbearer was Tara Beitel, and the eulogy was given by Joscelyn Symak and Maureen Holoboff. The interment took place in the Garden of Crucifixion at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with David Hordichuk, Bruce Pelechaty, Lorne Dutchession, Cory Beitel, Darren Holoboff and Adrian Lozinski serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home (baileysfuneralhome.com)
