Mary Kerunsky

Mary Kerunsky was born on August 17, 1915 in the Sheho district of Saskatchewan; the third child of seven children born to Anna (nee Sebansky) and John Medwid. She was raised on the farm and attended school in the Sheho district. As a young woman she met her future husband, John Kerunsky, at a school dance in the district. The couple were united in marriage on January 29, 1934 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church by Fr. Delforge. To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Beckenham district. Throughout these years, John and Mary were very involved in the Roman Catholic Church in Beckenham.  Mary worked alongside of John on the farm, she was a good cook, seamstress and an excellent homemaker. Following 45 years on the farm, the couple moved to Foam Lake, where they resided for eight years before coming to Yorkton. Following the death of John in March of 1988, Mary was able to maintain her home for a couple of years, then became a resident of Independent Manor. Mary resided there for 24 years. She was able to do a lot of travelling throughout Canada during this time, mostly to visit family. Mary was an avid card player, but enjoyed doing puzzles the most. She also had a green thumb, especially growing her prize winning African Violets. In 2011 her health began to fail and had been a resident of the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre till her passing on December 12, 2015. She was 100 years, 3 months and 26 days of age. Predeceased by her parents; husband John; daughter Emily Kozakewich; grandsons, Allan Zatwarnitski and Curtis Kozakewich; son-in-law, John Zatwarnitski; brothers: Mike, Pete, Andy & Carl Medwid and her sister, Irene Rawlyk. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Adela Zatwarnitski of Yorkton; Violet (Eugene) Hnatiuk of Yorkton; two sons: John (Beverly) Kerunsky of Christopher Lake, SK, and Glen (Cindy) Kerunsky of Calgary; son-in-law, Bill Kozakewich of Calgary; grandchildren: John Zatwarnitski Jr, Cassie & Georgia Kerunsky, Shannon Schwartz, Stacey (Karen) Hnatiuk, Adrienne (Don) Patrician, Sherry (Kent) Buckler, Travis Kerunsky (friend Kate); 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Gildart of Winnipeg; numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Wednesday evening, Dec. 16, 2015 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The lay-presider was Rick Yaholnitsky. Hymns sung were 'Just As I Am', 'Psalm 63', 'Come Home' and 'Immaculate Mary'. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 17 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Fr. Francis Hengen officiating. Organist, Lorraine Lysak led members of St. Gerard's Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace', 'Psalm 116', 'Peace Is Flowing Like a River', 'Only A Shadow', 'Hail Mary, Gentle Woman', 'Song of the Angels' and 'Precious Lord'. The Lectors were Stacy Hnatiuk and Sherry Buckler, the Cross bearer was Shannon Schwartz. The interment took place in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Glen, John and Travis Kerunsky, Stacy Hnatiuk, Cec Krywulak and Glen Tymiak serving as the casket bearers.
