R.G. (Grant) CD Johnson passed away on August 14, 2012 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 69 years. Grant retired as a Master Warrant Officer after proudly serving with the Canadian Armed Forces for 28 years domestically and abroad. He served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) of the Royal Canadian Army until 1968 when the Canadian Forces were integrated and the unit was disbanded. Grant also served as a member of the UN Peacekeeping Force in both Cypress and Egypt. He then served 12 years with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Grant was forever actively serving his community, especially the youth, and was often involved with the Boy Scouts of Canada, the Cadet Corps wherever he happened to be posted and served as a Past-President of the Jaycees. Grant continued to be an active member and advocate for veterans with various organizations including the RCEME Association, the Canadian Peacekeeping Veteran's Association, as Past-President of Army Navy and Air Force (ANAF) Veterans Yorkton #1103, and as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion - General Alexander Ross Branch #77 in Yorkton. Grant is predeceased by his partner of many years, Theresa Hamer, and is survived by his two sons, David of Creston, BC and Douglas of Seoul, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Korea and by his three grand-daughters Jennifer, Jessica and Jienne. A service in celebration of Grant's life was held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Royal Canadian Legion Jubilee Hall in Yorkton with Jason E. Kopan serving as the Celebrant. Bagpiper, Fern Katzberg played "The Dark Island" and "Green Hills of Tyrol" in musical tribute to Grant. Cadets of the #2834 64th Field Battery Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corp formed an honour guard and members of the Royal Canadian Legion General Alexander Ross Branch #77 and Corp of Commissionaires formed the Colour Party. The Legion Act of Remembrance with all uniformed branches of service present taking part was a final fitting tribute to Grant's military life. Grant will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
