Mr. David Jakubowski of Yorkton, beloved husband of Darlene passed away the morning of Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 69 years. David Joseph Jakubowski was born on October 3, 1942 to Anton and Lillian (nee Revine) Jakubowski at Grayson, SK. He attended the Grayson Separate Roman Catholic School District #4. On May 2, 1967 David married Darlene Banga at Stockholm. In the early years of their marriage they lived at Stockholm, Bellevue AB, and Cranbrooke BC before settling back in Saskatchewan at Bangor in 1973 to raise their family. David was proud to serve as both a Councillor and the Mayor of the village for a portion of the time they resided there. In 1997 the couple semi-retired to Yorkton. David was a hard worker at various occupations throughout his lifetime and took great pride in his work. He especially enjoyed being a grader operator and was also passionate about farming. Upon his retirement, together with his wife Darlene, David spent his time as a volunteer driver for the Sunrise Health Region. They enjoyed the time they spent with the clients they served. David was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a big heart and was a loyal friend to all who knew him. He loved attending family gatherings and sporting events, socializing with friends and family at every opportunity and sharing many good laughs. He had a wonderful sense of humour that created much laughter throughout the years, including the days before his passing. He was predeceased by his parents Anton & Lillian, his father-in-law, John Banga, a brother Arthur Bergquist, and by two sisters in infancy, Evelyn and Loretta. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Darlene of Yorkton; his three children: Deanna (Edwin) Pellatt of Yorkton; Dwayne (Tanya) Jakubowski of Rosemary AB; and Danelle (Richard) Sabadash of Dalmeny SK. Six grandchildren: Jaedon, Janeen and Jairus Pellatt; Anthony Jakubowski; Tarron and Hudson Sabadash. Two sisters: Hilda Leverington of Lake Cowichan BC; and Irene Hyde of Duncan BC; four brothers: Edward Bergquist of Melville; Larry (Pat) Jakubowski of Grand Forks BC; Phil (Helen) Jakubowski of Lake Cowichan BC; Richard Jakubowski of Hanley SK; and Jim (Bernice) Jakubowski of Lake Cowichan BC. Also David's mother-in-law, Rose Banga of Melville; sister-in-law Marcelline (Rod) Gyug of Regina; brothers-in-law: Darwin (Arlene) Banga of Yorkton; Ross (Norma) Banga, and Mark (Sheila) Banga, of Regina; Brian (Lori) Banga of Stockholm; numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. The Prayer Vigil was held on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. The crossbearer was Jairus Pellatt and the lector was Marcelline Gyug. The pianist, Katherine Flaman led St. Gerard's Choir in the singing of the hymns, "Sing A New Song", Psalm 63, and "Servant Song"‚ and "For the Fruit of All Creation". Deanna Pellatt shared remembrances of her father's life. The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. Anthony Jakubowski served as crossbearer and Jaedon & Janeen Pellatt served as lectors. Prayers of the Faithful were led by Helen Jakubowski. Gift-Bearers were Danelle, Richard, Tarron and Hudson Sabadash. The pianist, Pam Yaremko led members of St. Gerard's Choir in the singing of the hymns,"You Are the Voice", Psalm 116, "The Lord Is My Hope", "Seed, Scattered and Sown", "Song of the Angels", "God Is Alive". All who knew and loved David were considered honorary bearers. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew at Yorkton Memorial Gardens. With Edward Bergquist, Larry Jakubowski, Phil Jakubowski, Richard Jakubowski, Craig Stokes and Mike Gulash serving as the casket bearers. A Tribute at reception following the funeral was presented by Brian Banga. Memorials in memory of David may be made to Yorkton Regional Health Centre for ICU equipment, Heart & Stroke or Diabetes Charities.
