Geoffrey William Houghton was born December 23, 1925 at Ivy Cottage, Earlswood, Warckshire, England to Victor William Houghton and Lizzie Houghton. They continued living in the immediate area and he went to school at Salter Street school and Tidbury Greens School. Completing school by age fourteen, Geoffrey helped out on the family farm. Geoffrey moved to Canada in 1950 and worked as a horse groomer in Ontario, then moved to Saskatchewan on a harvest excursion. He purchased his own land in 1956 and in 1957 he met and married the woman of his dreams, Emily Joyce Legge. Their marriage was blessed with five children, four sons and one daughter. Together they farmed in the Chatsworth area until retirement in 1990 when they moved to Yorkton. Geoff spent many enjoyable hours reading, playing cards and raising small birds and animals after his retirement. Geoff's pride and joy were his children and later grandchildren and great grandchildren were regaled with many tales and stories. Geoff was predeceased by his parents Victor and Lizzie, his sister Doreen and infant son John William Houghton. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Emily; sons George (Kathy) Houghton of Saskatoon and family, Bill Houghton of Weyburn and family and John (Rhonda) Houghton of Rhein and family; daughter Doreen (Howard) Demchuk of Oxbow and family; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nephews and a niece. A Celebration of Geoff's life was held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Farquharson officiating. The organist, Ruth Datema led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Rock of Ages", "Amazing Grace" and "For the Fruit of All Creation". Chris Demchuk, Geoff's grandson served as the urnbearer.
