David "Dave" Horaska was born on January 9, 1939 on the family farm near Calder, SK, the son of Alex and Helen (nee Rurak) Horaska. He passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK. He was 77 years of age. Dave grew up on the family farm, went to school in the Calder district and as a young man helped out on the farm. When he was 17 years old, Dave moved to Regina where he found work at Inland Cement. He worked for Inland for 35 years, ending his career with the company as a process controller. In July of 1960, Dave married Ruth Malanowich in Calder, SK and their were blessed with two children, Lorraine and Brian. Upon his retirement, Dave moved back to Calder. An avid outdoorsman, Dave loved hunting with his cousin, Peter at their cabin in Hudson Bay. He enjoyed camping and was always ready to hook up his most prized possessions - his fifth wheel camper and boat - to entertain his family and friends. And above all else, Dave loved to fish! Winter or summer he would be found at his favorite lakes, Little Bear Lake and Lake of the Prairies and most recently at Madge Lake. He always took people fishing to show off his fishing skills, but on the rare occasion when he was out-fished - he wasn't happy! Dave was an excellent pool player and his other hobbies included, playing cards, dancing and in his younger years, playing fastball. David was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Helen, his sister, Edna and his wife, Ruth. He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter, Lorraine and her children, Lynette (Jason) and Stewart; his son, Brian (Janine) and their son, Eric; great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Linea and Jace as well as many other family members, cousins and friends. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Kathy Novak serving as the Funeral Celebrant. Raymond Lacusta shared words of tribute and eulogy. Special taped music selections included music from the Ukrainian Old Timers and "Oh What a Love" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The Cremation Committal followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with David's grandson, Eric Horaska serving as the urn bearer.
