Mrs. Anne Holowka of Yorkton, beloved wife of Paul entered eternal rest on April 2, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville. She was 85 years of age. Anne was born on July 10, 1926 in the Rockford district of Saskatchewan, a daughter of Stanley and Magdalene (nee Hrynkiw) Rachkowski. She attended school and was raised on the family farm in the Rockford district. Anne worked for various restaurants in Yorkton, at Yorkton Union Hospital as a nurse's aid and at the Radar Base in the mess hall. On October 9, 1949 Anne was united in marriage to Paul Holowka at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Anne was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. Predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Magdalene; brothers Michael, Bill and some brothers in infancy; sisters Emily and Angeline; brothers-in-law Peter Kucharsky and David Shaheen and sister-in-law Hilda Rachkowski. Anne leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Paul; brothers and sisters Mary Kucharsky, Wally (Olga) Gable, Olga (Matt) Gazdewich, Tina Shaheen, Johnny Rachkowski, Leo (Karen) Rachkowski and Frances Anderson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Monday, April 9th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary led by members of Ukrainian Catholic Women's League preceded the prayers. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was held on Tuesday, April 10th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus & parish choir members. The cross bearer was Brenda Ferleyko and the epistle reader was Walle Head. UCWLC members, Sonja Pawliw, Joyce Kniaz, Rose Mysko, Mary Gulaga and Violet Kluk participated in an honour guard. Serving as honourary bearers were Mary Kisielewski, Anne Bodnar, Evelyn Boychuk and Larry Holowka. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Mark Anderson, Craig McDonald, Blair Jenning, Wayne Balaberda, Blaine Balaberda and Leo Rachkowski serving as the casket bearers. Following the lunch reception Mark Anderson shared memories of his aunt. Memorials in Anne's name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
