Rena Anne Hoffman (nee Hicks), beloved wife of Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 surrounded by her family at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a brave battle with cancer. She was 65 years of age. Rena was born on April 22, 1951 to Clare and Alice (nee Wilson) Hicks at the Yorkton General Hospital. She attended school in Bredenbury from Grades 1-9 and then in Yorkton. In 1966 she met the love of her life and three years later they were united in Holy Matrimony on October 11, 1969. Rena and Wayne settled in Yorkton where Rena babysat for many families. They were blessed with three children, Tamara in 1971, Melissa in 1972 and Collin in 1975. Rena remained at home to raise her family while continuing to babysit for other families. Once she felt her children were old enough, she began to work at The Yorkton Enterprise/Yorkton This Week in the mail room. She also worked at Astron Movers and Jays Movers until 2000 when she decided to remain at home to babysit her grandchildren. She began working maintenance at Walmart and continued to work there until her illness prevented her from doing so. Rena had many hobbies. She loved flowers and was proud of her flowerbeds in the summer. During the warm months she could always be found with Tamara attending garage sales or holding one herself. Morning was never complete without breakfast and socializing at McDonald's with friends and neighbours. Rena's greatest source of enjoyment was her seven granddaughters. She would do anything for them and they tended to know it. Rena had a sincere love for animals of any kind, especially cats. If one of her cats passed away, you could be certain another one would show up on her doorstep to replace it. Rena took in many strays, some of the four-legged variety and some of the two-legged variety. If Rena felt someone need help, they could always have a bed at Rena's. This is one trait she will be remembered for, her generosity. Rena is predeceased by her parents, Clare and Alice Hicks; her father and mother-in-law, Edwin and Theressa Hoffman and one nephew, Cory Hicks. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Wayne; her daughters, Tamara (Adrian), Melissa; her son, Collin (Tanya); her grand-daughters, Jazmine, Taiya, Jaqueline, Madison, Rhianne, Shae and Avery; her special children, Andrew and Katelyn; her brother, Melvin (Doreen) Hicks; her sister-in-law, Donna Milbrandt and by numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from Heritage Baptist Church, Yorkton with Pastor Brian Kirsch officiating. The pianist, Jeanette Kriger led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "In The Sweet Bye and Bye", and "The Old Rugged Cross". A photo presentation with various Elvis Presley spirituals took those friends and relatives gathered down memory lane of Rena's life. Collin Hoffman and Donna Milbrandt brought special family tributes in memory of Rena. Betty Fritzke read the obituary and shared her memories of Rena. The interment followed in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery with Lorilie Berard, Adrian Hudy, Fergus Wilson, Bill Wilson, Andrew Smuk and Berin Middlemas serving as the Pall bearers.
