Bertha May Herron

Bertha May Herron, better known as "Snookie", was born March 26, 1919 on the family farm near Saltcoats. She was the daughter of Frank and Edith Morgan. There were five children all together; Marjorie, Luke, Rhoda "Topsy", Bertha "Snookie" and Lewis "Kayo". Snookie received her education at Castleton School in Saltcoats. She met the love of her life William "Bill" Herron and they were united in marriage on December 15, 1936 at St. Augustine's Anglican Church in Saltcoats. Following their marriage, they resided on a farm in the Saltcoats area. On August 13, 1938 they were blessed with a son, Allan William and on September 21, 1940 their family grew a little more when daughter, Muriel Lorraine was born. In the mid 40's Snookie and Bill purchased their own land and were employed at Richardson Turkey Hatchery. She also had been employed at Hueskens Bakery and Thorsness Hardware until she retired. In 1947 the couple moved from the farm and purchased a home in the town of Saltcoats where Snookie remained living until January 5, 2007 when she moved into the Senior Units. In 2012 her health started to decline and she became a permanent resident of Lakeside Manor Care Home until her passing. She passed away peacefully on February 25, 2017 with 5 generations by her side, Muriel, Kim, Lisa, Teslia as well as granddaughter Wanda. Snookie had many hobbies throughout her life; curling, crocheting, knitting, cross-country skiing, making quilts and playing cards. She was also very involved with the Anglican Church and acquired many friendships. She also volunteered many hours at Lakeside Manor Care Home and in the community as well. Snookie enjoyed spending time with her family as they enjoyed much time with her. She and her sister Topsy were great companions and loved to travel. They made adventurous trips to Alberta, Nanaimo, BC, Swan River, MB and Fairlight, SK to visit relatives, but the highlight of their travels was their trip to Hawaii with Kayo and Audrey. Snookie also looked forward to her annual combine ride with the great-grandchildren, Justin and Joshua at the Conrad farm. She leaves to mourn her passing and share her memory her daughter, Muriel Nicol of Saltcoats, three grandchildren, Brent (Sherry) Nicol of Newfoundland, Kim (Harvey) Cooper of Saltcoats, Wanda (Keith) Conrad of Saltcoats, five great-grandchildren, Lisa Cooper (Darin Tangedal) of Saltcoats, Devon Cooper (Sam Jolly) of Saltcoats, Justin (Katherine) Conrad of Saltcoats, Joshua Conrad of Yorkton, Kirsten Sikora of Regina, three great-great-grandchildren, Rylee Wagner, Trinity Wagner and Teslia Cooper-Tangedal and one on-the-way, daughter-in-law, Yvonne Herron of St. Albert, AB, brother, Kayo Morgan of Saltcoats as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Bill Herron, son, Allan Herron, son-in-law, Lloyd Nicol, two sisters, Marge and Topsy, brother, Luke and two sisters-in-law, Audrey and Dorrie. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Kathy Novak serving as the Funeral Celebrant. Snookie's great-granddaughter, Lisa Cooper shared words of tribute and eulogy. Musicians, Carla Laycock, Linda Datema, Esther Morgan and Teresa Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", "How Great Thou Art" and "Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore". They also shared two special music selections, "Amazing Grace" and "Jealous of the Angels". The Interment Service followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Justin Conrad, Joshua Conrad, Lisa Cooper, Devon Cooper, Rylee Wagner and Darin Tangedal serving as the casket bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
