Vera Dora Hanna passed away peacefully on December 17, 2011 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home at the age of 85 years. She was born on August 16, 1926 to Mike and Annie (Naharni) Krisko in Angusville, MB. She attended school in Angusville and then worked briefly in Winnipeg. She married Rudy Lowenburger who farmed north of Marchwell. Years later, their marriage ended and Vera married Massed (Bonny) Hanna. They were meant for each other. Bonny was a welder and worked on construction. They moved often in British Columbia and Alberta. After Bonny's sudden death, Vera moved back to Kamloops. There she found work as a security guard at the Kamloops airport. Vera had no children, she enjoyed entertaining and loved having company. She loved dancing, politics, and dogs and cats. Her house was always immaculate - she even ironed her tea towels. She also shovelled grain at harvest time in wooden granaries and milked cows. Vera was always there to help her family and friends, but you knew you had pushed the wrong buttons when she put her hands on her hips and gave you " that look". In 2005, due to Alzheimer's, David and Phyllis moved Vera from Kamloops to Aspen Bluffs care facility because she needed to be closer to family. In the last couple of years she was a guest at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home until her passing. Vera was predeceased by two sisters; her parents; her husband, Bonny; brothers, Lew and his wife Nellie, Bert and his wife Nettie and Ted; brother-in-law, John Chuckree. She leaves to celebrate her life an older sister, Marcella of the Russell Care Home; sister-in-law, Helen in Thunder Bay, ON and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The pianist, Carol Nagy and cantor, Francis Deters, led the congregation and members of St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church Choir in the singing of the hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "Psalm 23", "Song of the Angels" and "Though the Mountains May Fall". Soloist, Edie Lowenberger sang "The Prayer of St. Francis". The urn bearer was her niece, Phyllis Schepp. The Cremation Committal will take place in Kamloops, B.C. at a later date.
