At the age of 98 years, Annie Hancheroff, beloved wife of the late George Hancheroff, passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on March 12, 2017. Annie was born on July 18, 1918 on the homestead in the Mamornitz district to Kostanteen and Dora (Haluik) Bartko. She attended Mamornitz school completing grade 7. Annie had to sacrifice her education to help with the raising of her younger brothers and sister. She then went to work for a local farmer and this was where she met her future husband, George Hancheroff. They were united in marriage on October 4, 1939. Together they farmed for most of their lives except for a few years when they moved to BC, thus escaping the call to serve in the army. While in BC they purchased a house and worked in the orchard. Several of Annie's brothers joined and lived with them. After the war ended they returned to Saskatchewan and continued to farm on the family homestead. Annie worked very hard while on the farm, as there were not many modern conveniences. After the passing of George in September 1996, Annie took up residence in Yorkton, where she made many new friends and spent a lot of time walking across to the mall with them for coffee and visiting at the farmer's market. Annie was a great cook, both of Ukrainian and Russian dishes, and no one ever left her place feeling hungry. Due to failing health in the last few years, she was required to take up residence, first in the care home in Foam Lake and then in Yorkton. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Annie was predeceased by her parents, Kostanteen and Dora; husband, George; sons, Jacky and Johnny; grandson, Gerald and brothers: Bill, Matt, John, Nick (in infancy), Pete, Mike and Alec. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Darlene) Hancheroff of Yorkton; daughter, Dianne (Garry) Loutitt of Yorkton; grandchildren: Tamara (Troy) Milnthorp of Saskatoon, Kevin Hancheroff and Carolyn (Tyler) Conrad both of Yorkton; great-granddaughters: Ava and Julia Milnthorp and Taylor and Hailey Conrad and a sister, Mary Perzan of Fosston as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A Funeral Service was held Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Walter Ostoforoff of the Canora Doukhobor Society officiating.
