GUNDERSON - Mrs. Norma Gunderson beloved wife of Mervin Gunderson of Yorkton passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, January 7, 2012. She was 73 years of age. Norma Loverne Gunderson was born on May 14, 1938 in Wadena, SK to Lance and Selma (nee Julien) Elliott. Norma grew up in Wadena along with her ten siblings. In 1961 Norma met Mervin Gunderson. In 1963 they were united in marriage and moved into the home that they shared for their forty-eight years of marriage together. Norma was a Nursing Aide for many years at the Yorkton Union Hospital. Her main focus was always her family, looking after her three children, Larry, Leanna and Linda. Later in life her flowers, yard work and decorating her beautiful home always kept her busy. She will always be remembered for her kind hearted nature and wonderful sense of humour. Norma will be welcomed to her new eternal home by her parents, Lance and Selma Elliott; one brother Allan; three brothers in law, Bruce, Bob, and Bill. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her husband of forty eight years, Mervin of Yorkton; son Larry (Debbie) Gunderson of Yorkton; two daughters, Leanna Gunderson of Yorkton and Linda (Gary) Sauser and their two children Rylan and Jayde all of Saskatoon; Norma's five brothers, Ron (Kay) Elliott, Ray (Joyce) Elliott, Ken (Linda) Elliott, Lawrence (Heidi) Elliott and Jim Elliott; four sisters, Dena Sully, Joy Krenz, Marvel Sully, Donna (Roy) Hansen as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. A visitation and prayer service for family and friends was held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Faye Greer officiating. The organist, Laurene Jemieff with members of the church choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, 'Old Rugged Cross' 'Morning Has Broken' and a special hymn, 'Take it to Jesus' written by Norma's mother, Selma. A poem was read by daughter, Linda and a tribute and words of remembrance was given by daughter in law, Debbie Gunderson. Norma's son, Larry gave a special musical tribute that was included in a video that was played. Urnbearers were Leanna, Linda and Debbie at the church, and Mervin, Larry and Gary at Cemetery. Interment followed in the family plot in the Garden of St. Matthew in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorials in memory of Norma may be made to the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for Cardiac Care or to the Westview United Church Memorial Fund.
