GUENTHER - Warren

Posted

Warren Guenther

Warren Guenther was born May 8, 1952 at the Yorkton Hospital and was a healthy child for about six months and then became sick with a high fever which caused him to be mentally challenged. Warren was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stornoway and enjoyed the family farm until 1972 when he moved to Yorkton with his parents. When he was eight he began attending the Lions School in Yorkton on Independent Street. When he turned 18 he was transferred to the workshop on Argyle Street before he started working at the Parkland Ability Centre (now known as Sask Abilities Council). He enjoyed going to work, since he did not like to miss any days and received his 45 year appreciation certificate on December 11, 2015. He remained at the Ability Centre till December 2016 when ill health prevented Warren from going anymore. Warren enjoyed bowling and won several trophies. Over the years Warren also enjoyed visiting relatives, attending church, walking and going shopping. While at work and at home he was very neat, organized and always ready to help. Warren enjoyed his visits to the farm where he spent his earlier years riding his bike. Warren lived at home with family until 2000 at which time he went to live in a group home. In 2004 he moved to a second group home and his caregiver was Jocelyn MacDonald. He remained in Jocelyn's care until February 1, 2017. As Warren's struggle with cancer advanced a decision to move him to Melody Manor Â鶹ÊÓƵ became necessary. Warren was predeceased by his father, Fred in 2005; mother, Alvina in 2014; infant brother, Harvey in 1951.
