FENSKE- It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Stuart Fenske on October 3, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gerald was born April 14, 1946. He was the eldest of five boys born to Earl & Emma (Holstein) Fenske. Gerald was raised on the family farm near Ebenezer. As a young boy he worked hard on the farm developing a work ethic that was evident throughout his life. After finishing school, Gerald moved to Moose Jaw to pursue a trade in carpentry. He then returned to Yorkton and worked for Bill the Builder, Logan Stevens Construction & Tower- line Contractors. On September 6, 1969, Gerald & Elaine (Harrison) were united in marriage at the Ebenezer Baptist Church. They made their home on the old Fenske homestead where they were blessed to raise two daughters, Tracey & Shannon. In 1978 Gerald started his own business - Gerry's Backhoe Service. He loved his work and as a result, he never fully retired. Gerald was a kind and generous man who was always ready to help anyone. He genuinely loved life and according to him, "every day is a good day". Above all else, he loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Many happy times were spent out at the cabin with family and friends. Anyone who knew Gerald understood his passion for fishing in lakes, rivers or on ice (especially his good friend Danny). Gerald also enjoyed watching the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Blue Jays and proudly supported his local Yorkton Terriers hockey team. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Earl & Emma Fenske and father-in-law, Morgan Harrison. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Elaine, his daughters, Tracey Leyde (Scott) and Shannon Miller (Eric), his grandchildren, Brittney Searcy (Brandon), Katheryn Leyde, Dane Leyde, Alexandra Miller, Lauren Miller and one great-granddaughter, Ava Searcy, his mother-in-law Rose Harrison, his brothers, Wayne Fenske (Janice), Doug Fenske (Sharon), Murray Fenske (Barb) & Wendel Fenske (Debbie) his many nieces, nephews, cousins, his much loved Uncle Johnny as well as many, many friends. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Rick Gibson officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler, led in the congregational hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "It is Well With My Soul". Brittany Searcy shared words of remembrance. The solo, "Amazing Grace", was sung by Amanda Buhler and accompanied on violin by Tabatha Buhler. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Dane Leyde serving as the urn bearer.
