Violet May Evans (nee Hughes) was born on June 1, 1920 on the family farm in the Glyndwr District. She was the youngest of eight children. She completed her Grade 10 at Glyndwr School, then moved to Winnipeg to be near her sisters. Violet worked at various jobs and during World War II, she packed parachutes for the forces overseas. On June 25, 1946, Violet married Arthur Evans and together they worked on the farm and raised their three children Lyle, Sharon and Lynton. In 1989, they retired to Saltcoats. Arthur became ill and died shortly thereafter and Violet continued to live in Saltcoats until 2007 when she moved to the Bentley Retirement Community in Yorkton. Violet lived there until her passing. Violet was involved in whatever community she lived in. She was a committed volunteer in the Bangor 4-H Clubs, UCW, Glyndwr and Llewelyn Community Clubs, Service Groups, Laketown Leaders and Curling Clubs. Violet and Arthur attended church every Sunday until services were no longer offered regularly at Llewelyn United Church. Violet loved being outdoors and loved gardening. Violet always had a huge vegetable and flower garden. She had the greenest thumb - she could make anything grow. Violet never let you leave hungry or empty handed, she was a very giving person. Violet cooked and baked from scratch. She was known to make the best peanut butter cake and cookies and of course the best Welsh cakes. She was an avid sports fan particularly when it came to hockey, curling, dance and the Toronto Blue Jays. When she could, she went in person to watch her grandchildren participate in their activities. She was a competitive card and crib player and often participated in crib tournaments. She loved to make jigsaw puzzles and if she wasn't in her room at the Bentley, you always knew she could be found with her friends at the puzzle table. Violet highly valued her family and friends throughout her life, visiting and spending time with them. Violet was a people person. She treasured phone calls, letters and visits with her nieces and nephews and all her extended family and friends including family in Wales. Violet leaves to celebrate her life her son Lyle and his wife Bonnie and their children Kerri (Derrek), Lisa (Lawrence), Chris (Shona) and Leah (Joel); her daughter Sharon and her son Kaley; her son Lynton and his wife Carolee and their children Amie, Jessica (Riley), Rebecca and Jordan; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. Violet was predeceased by her husband of 45 years Arthur Evans, her parents John and Eliza Hughes; brothers Hugh, Ernie (Agnes), Bert (Doris) and Fred (Minnie); sisters Maude, Edith (Bill)Johnston and Gwen (Arnold) Evans and her in-laws Arnold (Gwen) Evans, Beth (Les) Turberfield, Glyn (Florence) Evans, Eddy Evans, and Grace (Ron) Scott.
