It is with great memories and much sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elsie Eckhart. With her family by her side, Elsie passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Friday, March 10, 2017 following a short battle with cancer. She was 78 years of age. Elsie was born July 8, 1938 in Shellbrook, SK. She grew up farming with her parents, finally settling in Yorkton, SK. Elsie met and married her husband, Norman Eckhart and had three children, Donald, Garry and Linda. Elsie worked at various restaurants in Yorkton and 21 years of service at the nursing home. Elsie worked very hard to have a good life and raise her three children, doing a lot of it on her own after her husband passed away at a young age. Elsie was dedicated to her family, taking care of her sister with multiple sclerosis and her parents when they became elderly. Elsie had a green thumb, she grew flowers and had a garden every year until her passing. Her garden was so bountiful she shared with everyone including donating to the food bank. She also enjoyed travelling when she could, getting out shopping and having coffee with friends. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Edward Bonik; her husband, Norman; two brothers, Wally and Edward; her sister, Edith as well as a grandson, Tyler. She will be deeply missed and leaves behind to celebrate her life her children, Donald (Joyce), Garry (Angela) and Linda (Joe); grandchildren, Amanda (Nathan), Justin, Kelly, Dean and Tracy; great-grandchildren, Haydn, Ezmera and Keenan; her sister, Mary, as well as many other relatives and friends. Much love until we meet again....Elsie's family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, the STARS Air Ambulance and the doctors and nurses in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Obyen who cared for Elsie for the last two months of her life. The compassion and care these medical professionals showed Elsie and shared with her family during this difficult time was sincerely appreciated and will not be forgotten. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Deborah Smith officiating. Special taped music selections included, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" as sung by Alan Jackson and "Supermarket Flowers" by Ed Sheeran. The Cremation Committal followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Justin Eckhart and Kelly Eckhart serving as the urn bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
