It is with great sadness the family of Roberta Derkacht, late of Saskatoon, SK announce her passing on Wednesday February 29, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Roberta was born November 6, 1924 in Shaunavon, SK, daughter of the late Isabelle (nee Howe) and Robert Carson. After completing high school she entered nurse's training at the Yorkton General Hospital, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. On June 22, 1946 she was united in marriage to Albert Michael Derkacht in St Gerard's Roman Catholic Church, Yorkton, SK. Together they owned and operated Derkacht Plumbing and Heating Ltd. for 30 years. When her family was grown she renewed her nursing diploma and returned to nursing. Roberta resided in Yorkton from 1943-2001 at which time she moved to St. Volodymyrs Villa in Saskatoon until her passing. Roberta enjoyed travelling to many parts of the United States, Mexico and British Columbia. Time with her family at "The Lake" was always enjoyed, first at Good Spirit, then later at Wakaw Lake and Regina Beach. Up until her passing she remained very involved in the lives of her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home made perogies and cabbage rolls were always welcomed at Christmas. She enjoyed good conversation and made good friends, and many of those friendships lasted throughout her entire life. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Albert, her daughter, Brenda Bruce, a sister, Enid Taylor and a brother, Edward Carson. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life a son, Dennis (Margaret) Derkacht; son-in-law, Ray (Ruth) Bruce; four grandchildren, Leah (Dan) Kurtz, David Derkacht, Travis (Layne) Bruce, Tara (Perry) Thoen and eight precious great grandchildren, Logan, Nolan, Everett, Liam, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Preston and Alexa. She is also survived by her sister, Tess Klatt, sister in law, Stella Carson as well as many nephews, nieces, and long time friends who were an important part of her life. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The pianist, Pam Yaremko, and members of St. Gerard's Parish Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Morning Has Broken", "Psalm 23", "Come Home", "I am the Bread of Life", "Song of the Angels" and "Amazing Grace". The Readers were Dan Kurtz and Shaun Carson and the Cross Bearer was Tara Thoen. Members of St. Gerard's Catholic Women's League formed an Honour Guard. The pallbearers were David Derkacht, Dan Kurtz, Travis Bruce, Perry Thoen, Shaun Carson and Gordon Klatt. In accordance with Roberta's wishes, following the funeral service cremation took place and a private family Cremation Committal will be held at a later date.
