CZAKLER - Mrs. Josephine Czakler

Mrs. Josephine Czakler of Yorkton entered eternal rest on Friday November 11, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 94 (8 days short of her 95th birthday). Josephine Violet Czakler (nee: Bancarz) was born at home on November 19, 1916 in the Goodeve District, the fourth oldest of ten children. She attended Grades 1 to 6 at Alkerton School then went to work at various farms. While working at one of the farms, she met the love of her life, Steve. They were married on November 25, 1936 at St. Gerard's Church in Yorkton, SK. They farmed in the Willowbrook District for many years before moving to the Saltcoats District in 1943 where they continued farming. In 1974, they left the farm and moved to Bredenbury, SK. In 1994, Josie (as she was called) moved into Yorkton and resided at Queen Elizabeth Court until her passing. Josie enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting, doing different crafts, making perogies at St. Gerard's, socializing, and taking bus trips. She was active at Queen Elizabeth Court with crafts, penny bingo and band. Josie was a woman of strong faith. She attended Church on a regular basis and always prayed her rosary. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's League. Predeceased by her parents, Karl and Mary (Turchak) Bancarz; husband Steve in 1995, daughter Doreen in 1939, son-in-law Pete Altwasser in 1993, and all her siblings. Josie leaves to mourn four daughters: Gladys Altwasser (friend Ken Chekay); Janette (Dale) Richardson; Paulette Cooper (friend Frank Woloschuk); Marjorie (Ross) Kobitz; eight grandchildren, Brad (Glenda) Altwasser, Larry Altwasser, Charlene (Marty) Klyne, Darcy Altwasser (Leah); Dean Cooper (Karla Kozak), Dale (Jody) Cooper, Karen (Randy) Hrynuik, Karla Kobitz; four great grandchildren, Kegan Altwasser, Dustin Graham, Mackenzie Klyne, Michael & Steven Cooper, and Sam & Brady Cooper; a sister-in-law, Doris Bancarz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Tuesday, November 15 and the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 16 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Francis Hengen as Celebrant. The pianists were Diana Hornung (Prayers), Pam Yaremko (Mass). Members of St. Gerard's Funeral Choir led in the singing of the hymns, "Glory & Praise to Our God", "Psalm 27", "We Will Rise Again", "Blest Are They", "Song of the Angels", "Canticle of The Sun". Serving as cross bearer was Diane Kowbel and as lectors were Shirley Barnes, Mary Bybliw, Gabrielle Hamilton. Daughters, Gladys, Janette, Paulette, Marjorie served as the Gift Bearers. Words of Remembrance were shared by Gladys Altwasser. Members of the CWL participated in an honour guard. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Bradley Altwasser, Larry Altwasser, Darcy Altwasser, Charlene Klyne, Dean Cooper, Dale Cooper, Karen Hrynuik and Karla Kobitz serving as the casket bearers.
