Mary Currah (nee Kalenchuk) passed away peacefully with her family at her side on March 12, 2012 at the age of 82 years. Mary was diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder several months ago and although the disease gradually took away her mobility and much of her ability to communicate, she still welcomed their presence with her to the end of her life. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Currah; her sisters-in-law, Mae Kalenchuk, Mabel Wyborn, June Currah and brothers-in-law, Matt Danyliuk, Dave Wyborn, Sid Currah and Ken Currah. Mary is survived by her daughters, Betty Ann (Gary) Atimoyoo and Maxine (Kenn) Propp; grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Bishop, Geoffrey (Kristy) Propp and Andrew Propp (Janis). Mary's great-grandchildren (Matthew, Marlie, Maddox, Morgan and Logan) knew and loved her as "Bubynia". She loved when they came to visit her. Harper was born only a few weeks before Mary passed away, but she was able to admire photographs shown to her of her youngest great-grandchild. Mary was one of four children born to Nick and Amy Kalenchuk. Also left to mourn her passing are her two brothers, John Kalenchuk and George Kalenchuk (Jean), sister, Rose Danyliuk, sister-in-law, Mary Haney as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary and Edgar lived in Wadena, Invermay, Foam Lake, Yorkton and Wynyard during their almost 50 years of married life. They worked together in various business enterprises which included operating the Imperial Oil Bulk Agency in Invermay and Foam Lake. In later years they were the owners of Currah's Food Hut in Foam Lake, which they operated for several years. Owning and operating a restaurant meant hard work and long hours, but they thrived on it. In 2000 they moved to Yorkton. Mary was very active in donating her time as a volunteer in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre Gift Shop for several years and loved the interaction with everyone that she met. She also volunteered as a "visitor" to people unable to leave their home and took elderly ladies to their doctor's appointments or shopping. Garage sales were a great pastime and she met lots of people during these outings. Mary loved gardening and always had flowers blooming and vegetables growing in her garden. She loved to cook and bake for her daughters and grandchildren until her health failed in the last year of her life and she was unable to continue to do the things she loved to do. Family was always the most important part of Mary's life and she was never happier than when she was with them. Their memories of a loving and beloved, Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma will always be with them.
