Eva Cooper passed away peacefully on May 20, 2012 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, SK. She was 89 years of age. Eva was born on March 28, 1923 in Hungary, the first of three born to Casper and Anna Haas. Her family immigrated here to Canada when she was seven years old to the Perley District where she attended school. She was united in marriage to George Cooper on November 17, 1949. Their union was blessed with four children. Eva lived life to the fullest each and everyday right up to the moment of her passing. She was the definition of a down home country girl. Eva and George farmed until the late 70's and retired to Saltcoats. To walk into Eva's home was always a treat, there was a never ending aroma of fresh baked buns or bread, dainties that filled the deep freeze and the greatest of meals could be created from seemingly nothing. Getting one of Eva's recipes was a chore itself- far often they consisted of a little of this or a little of that, nothing was really measured - she just went by feel or taste. While still living on the farm, Eva and George were both kept busy not only with the everyday aspects of farm life but also they often worked side by side delivering mail on George's mail route. Many hours were spent running with the kids to their various sporting events. Eva was an avid curler and curling fan. Curling was her game and once she was unable to play herself she could still be found at the local curling rink or following games on the television. Music, flowers, gardening, animals, bingo, and garage sales filled Eva's life to the brim, whether it was the Perley School gatherings or Craven, or someone's living room where there was music, there was Eva often with her harmonica hidden in her purse. In later years much of Eva's time was devoted to the Laketown Leaders Sterling Room spending many hours playing cards with her friends and neighbours. Just as Eva tended to her flowers, she tended to her children and grandchildren, each one was special. Just as a flower needs nourishment sunlight and room to grow.so did the children. They were all loved and tended to by the loving hands that only Eva could provide. They all hold a very special place in her heart. Eva was predeceased by her parents, Casper and Anna; her husband, George; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Marion Cooper, Eva & Tom Coghill, and Fred Kirkham. She is survived by her four children, Gary (Darlene), Harvey (Kim), Brenda (Ross) and Kevin (Lottie). She is also survived by her brothers, Casper (Lois), Roy (Eleanor); sister- in-law, Dorothy; seven grandchildren Joanna, Jamie, Lindsey, Lisa, Devon, Bobbi and Chris, as well as great grandchildren, Rylee, Trinity, Cooper and Rider as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews & many valued friends and neighbours. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from the Saltcoats Town Hall with Mr. Thom Carnahan officiating. The organist, Ruth Datema and pianist, Lorne Neal, together with members of the Saltcoats United Church Choir and Friends, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Morning Has Broken" and "Give to Us Laughter". Friend and neighbour, Bev McLaren shared words of tribute and eulogy in Eva's memory. Friends from the Church of God in Christ Mennonite provided special music. Eva's family shared their memories in a video presentation and Reverend Walter Farquaharson reflected on life, Eva's life and the Gospel. A Private Family Cremation committal followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Eva's grandson, Chris serving as the urn bearer.
