COGHILL- Mrs. Lily Margaret (nee Haw) Coghill passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Canora Gateway Lodge in Canora, SK. She was 97 years of age. Lily, "Lil" as she was known to family and friends, was born on December 17, 1919 in Battrum, SK, the daughter of Stanley and Emily (nee Mapes) Haw. She was raised and attended school in Pennant, SK and went on to attend Normal School in Moose Jaw to become a teacher. Lily was united in marriage to David William Coghill on May 8, 1940. When Dave was discharged from active duty at the end of WWII, the couple made their home in Yorkton. Lily was employed as a bookkeeper until 1954, when married women were allowed to continue their teaching careers. She taught in the Yorkton Public School system, mostly grade one students at Burke and Dr. Brass schools until her retirement in 1979. Music was a lifelong passion for Lily. In her younger years, she enjoyed sharing that passion by playing piano with dance orchestras. As a teacher, Lily shared her musical talents with her students in the classroom and through preparing numerous school choirs to participate in the Music Festival. And in her church, she shared her love of music with the congregation of St. Andrew's United Church as a choir member. Besides her love of music, Lily had many hobbies which included travelling, crocheting, knitting and writing poetry, skits and tributes to friends. She was very busy in her community as a member of a variety of volunteer organizations and was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church involved in Presbytery, the UCW and Bible Study. Lily was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, David in 1984 and all of her siblings. She leaves to celebrate her life, twelve loving nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a host of wonderful friends. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Roland Legge officiating.  Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Murray Wagner. The organist, Shani Apland and members of St. Andrew's United Church Choir, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Joyful, Joyful We Adore You", "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Unto the Hills". The Choir selection was "Jesus Loves Me". The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Chris Jensen, Clarence Fick, Darcy Lovelace, Brian Pohle, Miles Pearce and Colby Middleton serving as the casket bearers.  All of Lil's former grade one pupils and her friends who knew and loved her were named as honourary pall bearers.
