Lillian Clauson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home in Yorkton, SK. She was 91 years of age. Lillian was born on January 15, 1921 in Opheim, Montana, USA, the youngest of four children born to Eric and Emma (nee Swanson) Wickberg. She received her education at Freedhome School located south of Dubuc, SK. After completing her education, she went out to work for farmers in the area as a cook and housekeeper. On June 15, 1943, Lillian married David Clauson, her life partner for 54 years. They were blessed with two children, a son, Lloyd and a daughter, Beverly. The first five years of their marriage was spent farming in the Freedhome district. In 1948, they bought a farm in the Larson district and lived there until their retirement in 1979. Lillian worked hard on the farm, milking cows, churning butter, raising chickens and doing all the jobs a good wife did in those days. She was a very talented seamstress, who could take old clothes apart and make them into beautiful new outfits for her family as well as knitting and crocheting anything their hearts desired. Lillian and David were very active in the Freedhome Community, getting involved in all the activities that took place there. The "Sports Days" were the highlight of the year. They took in the Sports Day with ball games, horse shoe tournaments and of course took their turn on kitchen duty during the day. They rushed home to milk the cows, then hurried back for the dance in the evening. Lillian was a loyal member of the Freedhome Ladies Club where she used more of her talents with her scrumptious baking and her many forms of handiwork which the club donated to charities. When Lillian and David retired to Dubuc in 1979, Lillian's helping hand continued with the Seniors' Club and the Dubuc Recreation Association (D.R.A.). Her beautifully decorated cakes at the Seniors' monthly birthday parties will always be remembered as will her delicious pies donated to the D.R.A. Lillian was always a willing worker and did her jobs to perfection. In 1990 David suffered a stroke. Lillian was a loving caregiver for four years until is was necessary for David to be placed in the Centennial Care Home in Esterhazy, SK. She spent many hours by his side while he was there. After David's death in 1997, Lillian continued to live in her own home. In 2004, at the age of 83 years, Lillian left her home in Dubuc, her beautiful garden and flowers and all her friends to move to Yorkton to a Seniors' Condominium that allowed her to be closer to her family. She was there until her illness sent her to hospital and in November of 2011 she became a resident of the Jowsey House in the Yorkton & District Nursing Home
where she remained until her passing. Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Eric and Emma Wickberg; her husband, David; her brother, John Swanson; her sister, Mildred Closson as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Lloyd (Judy); her daughter, Beverly (Rienny); her grandchildren, Darrin (Joanne), Tammy (Kerry), Bradley (Shelley), Tyla (Steve), Blair (Bailey), Rene (Sherralee); great-grandchildren, Brittany Flick, Bailey Flick, Kelsi Kulcsar, Alyssa Clauson, Eric Clauson, Tatum Young, Kaebree Young, Kienna Young, Daxton Kulcsar and Deagan Kulcsar; her sister, Myrtle Anderson; her sisters-in-law, Edith Simle, Karin Closson; her brother-in-law, Arthur Closson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Kathy Novak serving as the Funeral Celebrant. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "In The Garden" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". Following a luncheon in the Gunn Reception Room at Christie's Funeral Home, the cremation committal took place in the Spruce Home Cemetery near Stockholm, SK with Lillian's grandson, Darrin Clauson, serving as the urn bearer.
