William "Bill" Cannon husband of the late Isabel Cannon of Yorkton passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was ninety-three years of age. William J. Cannon was born August 27, 1918 at the Yorkton Union Hospital to parents James & Jessie Cannon (nee McKen). William attended Orkney School and joined the army in 1941 and returned back to Canada in 1945. He was united in marriage to Isabel Patterson on November 22, 1946. He worked at the Yorkton Co-op until 1969 then at United Feeds until retiring at the age of 64 in 1982. In 1970 they purchased a farm and farmed until 1988. Throughout these years he was a member of the Yorkton Turkey Co-op as well and became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He also enjoyed playing softball, playing before, during and after the war, he also played hockey and curled as a child. He was an avid Roughrider fan, watching the final game on Friday, November 4, 2011 and enjoyed watching all sports on T.V. Bill's greatest joy was having family and friends around. He was interested in where everyone was and what they were doing. Pictures mailed to him were proudly displayed making him feel as if he were part of our daily lives. Phone calls and newsy letters of kid's activities, trips and the odd bet on a hockey game were shared with all. We as a family will always remember the WWII years as dad always had a tale or two from them. The last several years were spent either playing cribbage or doing search a word puzzles. If anyone missed curling, football, baseball, hockey or basketball games on TV, we just had to call dad for stats, stars and scores! His smile and the sound of his voice will be remembered forever. Bill was predeceased by his wife Isabel Cannon (nee Patterson) in 2002, his parents James H. Cannon in 1980 and his mother Jen Cannon (nee McKen) in 1969 as well as a brother Robert Cannon in 1986. He is survived by his sons, Donald W. Cannon, C. Alan Cannon (Iris) and daughter Kathy Bates (Kevin). Grandchildren Kelli Gillard, Tom Cannon, Don Cannon, Holly Dmyterko (Ernie), Lisa Campbell (Tyler), Jeremy Cannon (Krista), Billy Cannon (Shelley), Craig Bates and Kyle Bates. Great grandchildren Jordan, Alanna and Connor Campbell, Colter, Wyatt and Abby Cannon and Cameron Gillard. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 7 to 8 pm from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from Westview United Church in Yorkton. Interment will follow in the Yorkton City Cemetery.
