Joyce May Borys passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Kelowna General Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born on November 25, 1939 in Yorkton, SK, the eldest daughter of Metro and Carolina Borys. Joyce spent many years in Yorkton before moving to Kelowna, BC in 1992. Joyce graduated from Yorkton Collegiate High School. She worked for Morris Rod Weeder in Yorkton for 35 years. While living in Kelowna, Joyce was the accountant for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26. For Joyce, full retirement was just not an option. She took great pride in her work and will be missed for her strength, decisiveness, and commitment. Joyce loved gardening and spent many hours working in her yard in Yorkton and tending to her beautiful rose garden in Kelowna. Every fall, family and friends looked forward to a new batch of Joyce's canned fruit, vegetables, and pickles. She loved to entertain, spend time with family and friends, play cards with her grandsons, and go fishing with Kelvin. Nanny J loved her grandsons dearly and was very proud of all of Scott's accomplishments throughout the years. Joyce was predeceased by her parents and her brother Kenneth. She will always be remembered and loved by her son Scott, his wife Angele, and their sons Matthew and Christopher of Regina, SK; her brother Vernon of Yorkton and his family, Carrie-Lisa (Dennis and children Abbey, Brooke-Lyn and Carter of Yorkton) and Jason (Kim and daughter Tatum of Yorkton); her sister Judith (Dennis) of Kelowna, BC and her family, Jamie (Kim and children Kayla and Logan of Agassiz, BC) and Julie (Stephen and son Jackson of Kelowna, BC); her brother Kelvin (Pat) of Yorkton and their sons, Colin (Carrie) of Pasadena, California, Cory (Stacy and children Grace, Caden, and Austin of Green Bay, Wisconsin), and Kelly of Fort McMurray, AB; her sister-in-law Frances of Torrance, California and her daughters Jennifer and Elizabeth (Jacob and Jessica); as well as extended family and good friends. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Funeral Celebrant, officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "Just As I Am", "Be Not Afraid", and "Morning Has Broken". A scripture reading was read by Maureen Sabourin, and daughter-in-law, Angele Borys gave a family tribute to Joyce. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with grandsons Matthew and Christopher as the urnbearers. Memorials were to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be e-mailed to baileysfuneralhome.com. Arrangements were in care of Everden Rust Funeral Home of Kelowna and Bailey's Funeral Home of Yorkton.
