Fritz John Borys, of Yorkton and formerly of the Willowbrook District, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. He was 88 years of age. Fritz was born on June 20, 1928 on the family farm in the Fonehill District, the son of Stefan and Emily (nee Nazarkiewicz) Borys. He attended Fonehill School and after completing his education, Fritz helped out on the family farm, before purchasing his own land near Willowbrook. He later sold this parcel of land and began farming with his brother, Bill, also in the Willowbrook area. They expanded their operation by buying more land together and continued to farm until 1975 when they retired and moved into Yorkton. Still wanting to remain active, Fritz gained employment as a brand inspector at the stockyards where he worked for several years until becoming fully retired. In his younger years, Fritz was an excellent baseball player, later sharing his skills and expertise by coaching ball. He loved to watch all sports on television, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and even in his final days enjoyed watching the team in action. An avid bowler, Fritz also loved to fish, play horseshoes and enjoyed reading. Many happy hours were spent playing cards, playing blackjack at the Casino and socializing with friends. Known as the family handyman, Fritz was the person to turn to for help and advice on carpentry and fixing anything that was broken. A good friend to all who knew him, Fritz will be remembered as a kind, generous man with a wonderful sense of humour. Fritz was predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Emily Borys; his brothers, Alex, William "Bill", Fred, John and Mike; his sisters, Anne Rushkewich and Mary Osborne; his brothers-in-law, George Rushkewich, William Osborne and Steve Wach and his sisters-in-law, Marie Borys, Alma Borys and Emily Borys.
