BORYS - Eli

Posted

Eli Borys

Eli was born on September 1, 1926, on the family farm in the Fone Hill district.  He was the ninth of eleven children born to Stefan and Emily (nee Nazarkiewicz) Borys. He attended Fone Hill School and the Yorkton Collegiate Institute.  Upon completing his education, Eli remained on the family farm.  In 1961, Eli married his wife, Emily. They farmed together until 1971, at which time they retired from farming and moved into Yorkton. Eli enjoyed gardening, fishing and reading (especially western paperbacks). He was an avid bowler and horseshoe player. Eli like to play cards and spent many hours with his brother, Fritz at the Casino. He also liked to watch sports on television and even though he was in the hospital, he was able to watch this year's Grey Cup (however, he fell asleep and missed the overtime excitement and was quite surprised when he found out what he had missed). Eli could be found many mornings on coffee row at MacDonalds catching up on the "news". Eli was predeceased by his wife, Emily; his parents, Stefan and Emily; his sisters, Anne Rushkewich and Mary Osborne; his brothers, Alex, William "Bill", Fred, John, Mike and Fritz; his brothers-in-law, William Osborne, George Rushkewich and Steve Wach and his sisters-in-law, Marie Borys and Alma Borys. He is survived by one sister, Katherine Wach and one brother, Max (Jennie) Borys; one sister-in-law, Grace Borys; two step-children, Edward (Debbie) Borys of Prince George, BC and their children, Jody (Josh) Cronk, Kim (Derrick) Goyer and Bobbi Borys all of Prince George, BC and Sharon (Merven) Hudemka of Lethbridge, AB and their children, Melinda (Troy) Kline of Lethbridge, AB and Roni (Jon) Kirkness of Calgary, AB as well as seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Shelly Morris officiating. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Roni Kirkness and Allen Miller. Special taped music selections included, "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace", "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Amazing Grace". The Cremation Committal followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Jon Kirkness serving as the urn bearer. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
