It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Madeline (nee Chamberlain) Blommaert announce her passing on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, with her family by her side. Dorothy was born in her family home in Bryant, SK on October 10, 1921. The daughter of Stanley and Bertha (nee Hurl) Chamberlain, she was raised on their farm. In 1934, the family moved to Yorkton. It was here that she met her soul mate and best friend, Marinus Blommaert. They were married in Yorkton in 1940. In 1941, their first daughter, Janet Phyllis was born followed by Donna Christina in 1943. To complete their family their third daughter, Judy Madeline was born in 1945. The family lived in the city of Yorkton until 1947, when they purchased a mixed farm. In 1952, Marinus purchased his father's Holstein cows and began a dairy farm. Dorothy was a great cook, she baked breads, cinnamon buns, cakes and cookies. Her children have fond memories of coming home from school to find fresh baking waiting for them. Dorothy and Marinus loved to dance and would often take the girls to dances and box socials held at the country school. They passed on that love of dance to all three of their girls. One of Dorothy's hobbies was sewing clothes for her daughters when they were small. She also embroidered and knitted. In 1974, Dorothy and Marinus sold the farm and moved to Westbank, BC. There, Dorothy grew a huge garden filled with flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. She loved her flower beds and grew beautiful flowers. She also canned the fruit from their trees in Westbank and brought them out to the prairies for her family back at home. In 1984 Marinus passed away, then in 1991 Dorothy moved back to Yorkton, where she remained ever since. She was always interested in what her family was up to and what their achievements were. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family. Dorothy leaves to mourn her loss, her three daughters, Janet (Adolph) Soloski of Langenburg and their three children, Kevin (Bev) Soloski, Brenda (Todd) Lazariuk and her son, Kaedyn, LeeAnne (Chris) Folgizan; Donna (Michel) Guimond of Calgary and their son, Marc (Betsy) Guimond and their son, Nicholas; Judy (Ed) Fortin of Govan and her four children, Brent (Carol) Stumph and his sons, Tannyn and Jarett, Catherine (Darren) Unger and their three children, Cayla, Dallan and Coral, Jamie (Shawn) Lalach and their sons, Parker and Sawyer and John (Sondra) Currie. Predeceasing her were her husband, Marinus; her parents, Stanley and Bertha Chamberlain, her brothers, Norman and Wallace Chamberlain and her sister, Margaret Chamberlain as well as twin siblings, a boy and a girl, in infancy. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Faye Greer officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Softly and Tenderly" and "Nearer my God to Thee".
