It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Marion Benjamin (nee Trowell). Marion was born on May 17, 1927 to Frederick Percy and Jessie (nee Peach) Trowell of Saltcoats, SK. After completing her education, she took her training to become a teacher. As a young teacher Marion taught in many rural communities in Saskatchewan ending her teaching career at Windsor School. On November 10, 1948 she married John James "Jim" Benjamin and they settled on a farm in the Springside District. They were blessed with five children, Evelyn, Beth, Stan, Debbie and Gwen. The young family enjoyed farming until Jim's untimely passing in 1965. Marion and the children moved into the village of Springside where a few years later she became the Post Mistress for Springside and district. Marion enjoyed her job until retirement in 1992. After retirement Marion spent her days gardening, playing cards with good friends and devoted much of her time to the Springside United Church. She took time to travel with family and friends to curling events, Wales, England, Ireland and Florida and also to Spruce Meadows. Marion was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John James "Jim"; her brother, James Trowell and sister-in-law, Bea Trowell. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Evelyn Heshka and her children, Trevor and Brendan all of Winnipeg, MB; her daughter, Beth (Bill Koban) of Springside, SK and their family, Carly Whitley, Corinne (Rob Belcher) and their children, Cole and Cali Belcher all of Calgary, AB; her son, Stan (Patty) Benjamin of Melville, SK and their children, Jessica and Erin Eve Benjamin of Regina, SK; her daughter, Deb (Brendan O'Byrne) of Regina, SK and their children, David O'Byrne of Vancouver, BC and Sarah O'Byrne of Regina, SK; her daughter, Gwen (Jim Telencoe) and their children, Lauren and Susan Telencoe all of Winnipeg, MB; her brother, Bill (Evelyn) Trowell of B.C.; her sister-in-law, Val Trowell of Saltcoats, SK as well as many loving nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Marion's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Nursing Staff at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home (1st North) for the wonderfully kind and compassionate care they provided. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from Westview United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Faye Greer officiating. The organist, Laurene Jemieff and members of the Westview United Church Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Part of the Family", "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah", "I, The Lord of Sea and Sky" and "Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness". While all those who shared in Marion's life were invited to serve as honourary pallbearers, the urn bearer was her son, Stan Benjamin. The Cremation Committal will take place at a later date.
