Doris Babiuk was born on March 13, 1923 in Two Hills, AB; a daughter of Alec and Lena (nee Luciak) Carek and her stepmother Mary (nee Eliuk) Carek. In 1928 she moved to Saskatchewan, she attended the Luzan School. On November 11, 1939 she was united in marriage to Nick Babiuk at the Greek Orthodox Church. They farmed in the Rhein district until 1953. The family then moved to Kamsack, where they resided for the next 30 years, raising their eleven children. The couple eventually moved to make their home in Yorkton. Nick passed away in 1984 and in the following years Doris moved to Canora, then Esterhazy and later back to Yorkton when her health began to fail. She had been a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home at the time of her passing on January 4, 2018. She was 94 years of age. Doris loved visits from her family, especially the grandchildren. She enjoyed cross-stitch, making quilts, crocheting and doing seek-word books. Doris especially loved music, playing the harmonica and dancing. Besides her husband Nick, she was predeceased by a daughter, Evelyn Wall; her father Alec; mother Lena; step-mother Mary; sons-in-law, Vic Michalevich & Gordon Beck; daughters-in-law Liz Babiuk & Anne Babiuk; grandchildren, Ken Michalevich & Cheryl Richards and a great-grandchild, Kevin Wooldridge. She leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life her ten children: Mary Michalevich; Flo (Wayne) Grainger; Elmer Babiuk; Stan Babiuk; Ron (Ade) Babiuk; Sylvia (Robert) Yaworski; Larry (Linda) Babiuk; Joyce (Don) Babiuk; Gladys (Rick) Vermeulen and Cindy (Lawrence) Slivenski;  29 grandchildren: 52 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren. Also a stepsister, Margaret and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Monday, January 8, 2018 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Jen Dresser of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. The musical selection was 'You Are My Sunshine'. Tributes from the family were given by Sylvia Yaworski & Jason Slivenski. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dean Babiuk, Jason Slivenski, Ryan Vermuelen, Dean Beck, Rhonda Fulawka and Troy Grainger serving as the casket bearers.
