Violet Barbara Aschim (nee Zadorozny) was born at Hubbard, SK on January 24, 1935, one of nine children born to William and Dora Zadorozny. The family moved to Nipawin, SK in 1941, where Violet attended school and church. In 1954, she moved to Regina where she gained employment at the Grey Nuns Hospital as a Nurses' Aide. It was at that time that she met the love of her life, Maxwell Lester Aschim and they were married in 1956. They were blessed with three children, Michael, Cheryl and Suzanne. The family moved to Yorkton in 1965, where Violet worked as a Nurses' Aide at the Yorkton Union Hospital for 30 years. Violet and Max loved to camp, fish and travel. They enjoyed many happy holidays to Florida, Hawaii, the Caribbean and most special of all, train trips across Canada. These train trips included Churchill, MB for the polar bear run. Violet loved to ride the train with her family, while Max held the driver's seat and snuck his kids and grandchildren up to the engine to assist him. Violet had many passions. Her family always came first, but she also enjoyed baking, gardening, growing flowers, crafting at many Craft Shows with a highlight of decorating a tree for the Festival of Trees, year after year. Violet also loved to curl. She had a knack for the game and spent many weekends participating in bonspiels, while her family cheered her on from the stands. She was even deemed President of the curling club for many seasons. Violet was thrilled to spend time with her grandchildren, whether it was making them their favourite meal, cheering at their hockey games or just reading books, she was in her glory. She was incredibly passionate about Christmas - from decorating, to baking, to her truly special Christmas Eve meal, which included making sure everyone had a least one spoonful of kutia for good luck. Violet was a huge Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. She was crazy about football and could always be seen in Rider green on game day. After Max passed away, Vi moved to the Bentley Retirement Community where she spent many afternoons socializing, playing crib, watching football and making many friends. Violet moved to Saskatoon in June, 2015 to be closer to family. During the past year, she enjoyed many new experiences such as Folk Fest, Sunday family dinners at Michael's, front row seats at River Dance, Zoo Christmas Light Show, Ukrainian Malanka, High Tea and an overnight stay in the Nottingham Suite with Cheryl and Alison, Chuckwagon Races, Musical Ride and many warm sunny afternoons with her family. Violet was well known for her class and great taste in fashion. She loved to dress in blingy, elegant pieces. Shopping was by far one of her favourite things, particularly at Tracy's on Broadway in Yorkton. Whether it was shoes, jewellery or full outfits, she believed the more sparkle the better, it always matched the sparkle in her eye. Peacefully, in her sleep, Violet entered heaven on June 25, 2016 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Violet was predeceased by her daughter, Suzanne and her husband, Max. She leaves to mourn her children, Michael (Dawn) Aschim of Saskatoon, SK and Cheryl (Scott) Sherwin of Trochu, AB; her grandchildren, Tyler Sherwin, Kyle Aschim, Sean Aschim, Alison Sherwin and Kimberly Aschim.
