On May 7th, 2012 in her 97th year, Mary Anderson, formerly of Phone Hill and Yorkton passed away. She was living at the Crescent Gardens care home in White Rock, BC at the time. Mary was a mother, housewife, farmer and school teacher most of her adult life. She taught in Phone Hill, Parkerview, Willowbrook, and Dunleath. Born on a farm in Insinger, SK, Mary accomplished what very few rural young adults of that time did - she got a post-secondary education and this during the worst years of the Depression. She did it through self-sacrifice, hard work and an uncommon determination. In 1946 she met and married John Rodney Anderson, a returning soldier, and began the life of a farmer's wife, raising children, crops, gardens, chickens, cattle and taught school when she wasn't busy. Mary earned and deserved the great respect of every student she taught, every friend she made and, frankly, anyone who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband John, and her son Roger. She leaves her daughter Linda (Bernie), son Brian (Barbara), grandchildren Erin (Randy), Dana (Daniel), Sarah (Dax), Tyler and Emily (Ben) along with great grandchildren Jacob, Versailles, Oliver and Max. Mary's legacy is one of generous, thoughtful, caring love. She has served as a shining example of how the very best lives are led, aging gracefully, always patient and good humoured, thinking of others. Her family celebrates her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's Anglican Church, White Rock, BC on June 20th at 3:30.
