It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lena Achtymichuk. She was 96 years of age. Lena was born July 8, 1919 in the Wroxton district, the daughter of Peter and Mary Boychuk. She met and married her life partner Fred Achtymichuk on December 12, 1942. They farmed together in the Stornoway district and in 1957 moved to Yorkton and worked in various jobs in the city, but continued operating the farm until 1973. Both loved gardening and their yard which kept them busy during their retirement. With the passing of her husband in 1993 Lena busied herself with helping at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium helping in the kitchen, playing bingo and enjoyed socializing with her many friends over coffee. In 2006 she moved to Saskatoon to be close to her sister Katie and lived at Ilarion Residence where both resided. She would spend hours at Market Mall visiting with friends and strangers, as everyone was a friend to her. She will always be remembered for her friendship, generosity and enthusiasm for life. In April 2016 she moved to Jubilee Lodge in Saskatoon until her passing. She is survived by her sister Katie (Malainey) Saskatoon and brother Fred (Boychuk) Yorkton (who just passed away on May 11) and numerous nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her husband Fred, parents Peter and Mary Boychuk, four brothers, Eddie, Metro, Bill, Nick, two sisters Ann Zacharuk and Martha Lacktin. Prayers were held on Friday, May 13, 2016 and the Funeral Service on Saturday, May 14, both services at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Mel Slashinsky of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church officiating. The responses were led by Yvonne Panchuk & Parish Choir Members. The cross bearer was Laurene Achtymichuk. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Dave and Lillian Malainey, Cory and Joshua Malainey and Jamie and Crystal Malainey serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Lena's life may be made to the Canadian Red Cross - Fort McMurray Fire Fund as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at .
