OUTLOOK - It was back in April that it was revealed that the Van Raay and Community Swimming Pool in Outlook would not open for the 2024 summer season.

A number of issues that faced the pool after a freak flooding incident in January following the loss of heating that led to a burst pipe forced the Town of Outlook to make the unpopular decision that the facility would have to keep its doors closed for this year.

In the four months that have passed, people have been curious about the state of the pool as the extensive repairs are being carried out.

This week, the pool posted a status update as work continues on the facility.

From the Facebook page of the Van Raay and Community Swimming Pool:

"Pool repair update!

Since our last update the following has been completed:

- All electrical has been replaced and hooked up to the new motors/pumps under the crawl space.
- We filled the pool & started up the pumps (that circulate the water and operate our water features) to check for further leaks around the crawl space pipes as well as under the pool where our water feature pipes are located.
- When we started the pumps up, the "matchstick" and the "Tee" water features located in the shallow end were not operating as they should which indicated there is a leak. All other water features such as the umbrella, Freddy the frog slide and both waterslides are fully operational!
- We then drained the pool so we could investigate the leaks at the water features by removing them, air testing the lines and then using a camera to check for where the leak is located.

Next Steps:

- Repair the water feature leaks
- Repair a return jet near the deep end
- Coping and Liner repairs/replacement
- Concrete repairs
- Landscaping bricks around the pool deck repaired

We want to assure you that this has been a top priority since the incident and we are working with insurance and numerous contractors to ensure the pool will be operational in 2025.
