OUTLOOK - It was a sunny yet windy day, but that didn't deter students from Outlook High School from getting out and making the most out of the annual track and field meet.
Held on Thursday, May 9, the Blues ventured out onto the track to have fun and to compete to the best of their ability in a number of events, whether it was a number of races, long jump, shotput, discus throw, and javelin.
As well, eight school records were smashed with a number of impressive feats by these young athletes. The 3000 m race, which was held the day prior to the track meet, saw Soffiah Bang beat the previous record by 35 seconds. On track day itself, the 100 m races saw Sarah Leverton, Reed McLachlan and Jehu DeTorres establish themselves as the respective sprinters to beat in their respective age categories. In addition, DeTorres and Leverton impressed in the 200 m dash with record-breaking performances, defeating a record from 1975 by three seconds. When it came to the 400 m race, Brody Harris managed to run under the old record.
Out on the field, many eyes were on Reise Dolan, who dominated the discus event and obliterated the old record set in 1999 by a distance of more than six metres.
More track and field events are currently on the schedule in the coming weeks, including the provincial meet in Saskatoon at the Gordie Howe Track & Field Complex on June 7 & 8.
