Outlook curlers shine at Unity triples event

Young curlers from Outlook area stand out in weekend event.

UNITY - Some young curlers from the riverside community had a chance to shine out on the pebbled ice this past weekend, taking part in the SaskMilk Triples Cup tournament.

Held over March 22-24 at the Unity Curling Club, the event brought out Under-12 and Under-15 teams, including two teams from Outlook.

In Under-12 action, the Outlook Hackers found themselves matched up in the Gold final, where they faced the Sharp Shooters. Outlook conceded defeat, allowing the Shooters to take the Gold, but Outlook had earned their way to the Silver medal with three previous wins in the tournament.

The Outlook Hackers consisted of Nicholas Turton, Connor Berquist, and Michael Drury.

In Under-15 gameplay, the Outlook Hogliners played four games and won all but one en route to the Gold final, where they faced the Hack Attack. The team pushed through and didn't let up, taking the victory and the Tier 2 Division Gold medal at a score of 6-2.

The Hogliners, coached by Bill Ivan, consisted of Alex Calvin, Aiden Kratchmer, and Davin Ivan.

In other Under-15 games, the Outlook team of Ellis Larwood, Matthew Gross, and Bronson Skaalid, known as the Ice Breakers, took the Tier 1 Consolation Bronze after a loss to the Reiniger team.

As well, Outlook player Caleb Turton served as a substitute participant on the Under-15 team known as the Janitors, who would go on to capture the Tier 1 Consolation Gold with a win over Stone Cold.
