Outlook Blues, Bisons meet in crosstown court action

Friendly rivalry heats up in back-and-forth basketball game.

OUTLOOK - In another battle between two Outlook basketball rosters, fans were treated to another heated and action-packed game.

Held on Wednesday afternoon, March 5, the senior boys teams of the Outlook Blues and the LCBI Bisons met in the gym at Outlook High School, where a packed crowd enjoyed the contest that added some friendly heat to the crosstown rivalry between both local schools.

The court action intensified as the clock wore on, with momentum ricocheting back and forth between the benches.

However, once the Bisons managed to get a fair lead over the Blues, they didn't let up and refused to drop their guard.

By the time the buzzer sounded, LCBI had taken the win over OHS at a score of 60-49.

Of course, friendly crosstown basketball games between local rosters aren't the only thing heating up in the sport as the road to the HOOPLA provincial championship weekend becomes more clear as we head into March.

The OHS Blues team ventured to Rosetown to compete in 3A Conference action on March 7 & 8, where unfortunately for them, the hosting Royals were victorious at a score of 78-50.

Jasmine Akre, team manager and assistant coach, said she had a blast helping the team along the way this season and hopes to see the Blues back on the court next year.

"I'm so proud of these kids!" she said. "Many of them haven't played basketball in five years, and some have never played at all. They grew so much over this season. Owen (Redlick, coach) and I are very proud of them and only wish we had more time with them all. We have five kids from the team graduating this year!"

Meanwhile, the LCBI Bisons ventured to Davidson in 2A Conference action on Saturday, March 8, where they faced the hosting Raiders in what turned out to be a very intense matchup. Momentum swung back and forth as the score on the clock stayed neck and neck until the very end, when Davidson was able to inch just further ahead of LCBI and squeak out the win by a razor-thin score of 78-77, taking the Conference championship.

In girls basketball news, the Outlook Blues traveled to Clavet over March 7 & 8 for 3A Conference action, where they were defeated by Lanigan at a score of 108-11. The Lanigan roster were the eventual winners of the tournament, besting Watrous by a score of 76-37.

Regionals basketball action to determine who will be HOOPLA bound is set to take place this coming weekend at schools around the province.

Bringing it back around to local ball action, OHS is set to host another special alumni vs senior boys game on Thursday, March 20 at 5:00 pm.
