STRONGFIELD - A couple of local cowboys took part in this year's Calgary Stampede events, participating in the bull riding and saddle bronc events at the globally-known event back in July.

In novice saddle bronc riding, Cohen Larson of Macrorie managed to tie it up for second place during one of his rides, grabbing 68 points as a result. During other action at the Stampede, Larson found himself bucked off of one animal, but he still found a way to bring home $700 for his efforts.

Larson had folks at home cheering for him, and a clip of his successful 8-second ride that garnered him 68 points and a tie for second was captured and put on social media, with many congratulating the young rodeo star.

Meanwhile, Weston Davidson of Strongfield, something of a young pro at the age of 22, rode bulls by the names of Vertigo Spy, Fallin Angel, and Bob's Your Uncle, gathering no score for the first two bulls but grabbing 76 points for riding Bob's Your Uncle, taking home $2200 for his efforts.

Davidson's love of rodeo goes back to when he was as young as two years old, winning his first trophy after riding a sheep at a rodeo held in Innisfail, Alberta. Entering the sport through his family, with his uncle a pro bull fighter and his dad also a bull rider, it felt natural for Weston to pick up the reins.

Both Larson and Davidson, with fans watching from home, had the full support of those watching from back home in the Lake Diefenbaker region.
