WISETON - Flames have done their damage in a small Saskatchewan village on the day after Labor Day.
Smoke was already very visible in this west central part of the province on Tuesday, September 3, but a fire that broke out in the hotel building in the tiny community of Wiseton only added to the scene.
The photo shown was provided to this reporter by Scarlett Elliott, who screen captured the image from a video taken by local resident Kara Beaudry.
The Village of Wiseton page on Facebook shared the following on Tuesday afternoon as the flames dealt their damage: "The village is currently in need of water trucks. Building fire on main street - If anyone can spare anything please come help!"
At this time, it's not officially known what caused the flames in the village, which is just a short drive west of Dinsmore, but in a message to this reporter, a reader noted that not only did the fire affect the hotel, but it also dealt out damage to the local post office and the village office. The reader shared that someone had seen a truck on fire behind the hotel and that may have been the root cause of the blaze.
However, at the time of this story, nothing about the cause of the fire had been 100% official or confirmed.
UPDATE - The fire did in fact claim two buildings in the small village; the old hotel and the neighboring building, which housed both the local post office and the Wiseton village office.
As the community deals with the aftermath of the blaze, the village is now under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice.
