Football: Wildcats take down Bisons in Outlook

Hard-hitting contest saw impressive action from both rosters.

OUTLOOK - In high school football action on Thursday, October 3, the LCBI Bisons welcomed the Plenty Wildcats to their home field under sunny skies.

Despite the sunshine, the temperature was typically early October, with those cool feels of the fall weather. On the flip side of the coin, the action on the field was white-hot as the Bisons and the Wildcats tore into each other from the get-go.

In the first quarter, both teams were tussling for both position and possession for a few minutes until LCBI #46 Benjamin van Reeuwyk made a great catch at the 7:00 mark on the clock to get his team a first down. Unfortunately, the Bisons were unable to capitalize and it wasn't long before the Wildcats turned things around. At the 3:38 mark, Plenty #21 Connor Sittler made a touchdown on a good dash, with the convert being good. Maintaining the momentum, Plenty also managed to jump on a fumble a minute later to regain the ball, which was followed by #21 Sittler scoring his second touchdown of the game at 2:19, convert good. Not to be outdone, LCBI #33 Aiden Tran made a good run on the return.

The second quarter saw the Wildcats take possession with a strong tidal wave of momentum, with #14 Aiden McGrath scoring two touchdowns at 7:45 and 6:38, though the converts on both were no good. Looking to sway the momentum back to the home team, Bisons #14 Jude Ellis made an impressive recovery at 4:26 to get the ball back for LCBI. This was followed up by Bisons #33 Tran making another notable run and almost scoring at 3:27. On the next play, that's just what LCBI did as #18 Leland Righetti scored for his team, although the convert was no good. In response, Plenty turned it up and came back with another two touchdowns that were scored in the final 20 seconds of the quarter, made respectively by #21 Sittler and #83 Dante Walsh, with the converts for both being good.

The third quarter saw the action slow down as both teams tried different approaches, and the only scoring done was by Plenty #21 Sittler, with a touchdown made in the final two minutes of gameplay, though the convert was no good.

The fourth quarter saw things turn back up a bit, with Wildcats #83 Walsh catching an interception on a long drive pass from the Bisons at 9:41. In response, LCBI #33 Tran scored a touchdown at 6:47 on a great dodging run, with the convert being good. Minutes later, Bisons #1 Weston Dunn recovered a Plenty fumble at 2:07, although the opposition responded with a recovery of their own immediately afterward.

The end result saw the Wildcats take the victory at a score of 50-14.

LCBI's win/loss record comprised of only L's means the football season for the Bisons is over, although the team is grateful for the learning experience and the skills that players developed on the field.
