Football: Bisons bow to Kobras in final season game

LCBI played tough against Kindersley, but a win wasn't in the cards for the hosting Bisons.

OUTLOOK - The weather was bright, warm and sunny, making for picture-perfect conditions for people to come on out to LCBI High School on Thursday, October 19 to watch the Bisons host the Kindersley Kobras in 2A football action.

To get this game started, the Kobras were the first to get on the scoreboard 3:02 into it when #1 Lesley Thomas scored a touchdown, with the convert kick being good. Not to be outdone, LCBI #20 Conrad Goad made an impressive long run downfield to nab a touchdown on the very next play, eliciting cheers from the hometown crowd, but unfortunately, a penalty on the Bisons nixed it from being legitimate. Kindersley kept the momentum going at the 6:28 mark with another touchdown, this one scored by #17 Mason Kucher after a great catch, convert good. Pushing through were the Bisons, who managed to officially get on the board at 10:13 with a touchdown scored by #44 Nathan Chabot, who pushed hard through several Kobras in order to grab the points for his team. The convert, however, was no good for LCBI. Just as the clock expired on the first quarter, Kobras #39 Aidan Long nabbed a touchdown for his team, though the convert was no good.

The second quarter saw the action slow down significantly as both teams fought for possession of the ball and control of the field. Four and a half minutes into the time, it was the Bisons who nabbed a touchdown, scored by #24 Angelo McKernan, with a successful convert kick. Just under three minutes later, the Kobras answered back with another touchdown, scored by #9 Cameron Mclay, though the convert was no good. Momentum swung back and forth during this time that it was really either team's game to take.

The third quarter was also a slower chunk of time, with no points being scored by either roster. LCBI #20 Goad managed to make an impressive interception at 2:42, although the Bisons were unable to take full advantage. Things went further downhill for LCBI when Goad went down hurt at 7:04, with the Bisons losing a star player.

The Kobras picked up their point-scoring ways 86 seconds into the fourth quarter with a touchdown by #8 Aaron Giesbrecht on an interception, with the convert being good. Not to be outdone, the Bisons made an impressive push forward just a minute later to gain a first down, with #2 Joel Wright showing some notable fortitude. Unfortunately for LCBI, another player went down with an injury, with #32 Julian Senek hurt at 3:56. The local team didn't stay down for long, though, as the Bisons got back on the board at 5:05 with #2 Wright making a great burst downfield, which led to #44 Nathan Chabot making a touchdown, although the convert wasn't good. The Kobras answered right back with another touchdown by #8 Giesbrecht on a long run at 7:05, with a one-point convert being good. The time wound down, but LCBI made sure to end this game on a good note, with #10 Seth Wilmott making an interception on the final play of this battle.

The score of 43-20 would mean a victory for the visiting Kobras, and the last football game of the season for the Bisons.
