Elbow residents 'flip the switch' on Christmas

Annual event has grown in popularity each year.

ELBOW - For the third year, the lakeside community of Elbow became the little Christmas village that drew people from all over.

The annual 'Flip the Switch' lights and decorations event took place on Saturday, December 3, inviting those with Christmas setups at their homes to turn them on at 6:30 so that motorists driving around town would be able to enjoy them.

As well, Santa Claus and his helpers handed out hot chocolate and cookies at the Harbor Golf Club, with the drive-thru style event drawing over 50 vehicles full of people, resulting in 130 cups of hot chocolate being given out. This was perhaps an unsurprising number, as people needed something warm to drink after the windchill caused the -14 temperature to feel bitingly colder.

This year's winning homes were the first place home of Bill & Merrilee Boyle, the second place home of Rob & Carmen Letts, and tied for 3rd place were Scott & Evelyn Fiske and Penny Aadland. Aadland also won the turkey hamper, with the Loreburn Lions donating the bird.

To cap the night, fireworks were lit off just outside the Elbow bar, bringing an explosive and colorful end to the evening's events for another year.

Be sure to browse through the gallery to check out some of the highlights, and we recommend making an evening stop in Elbow to see all the lights for yourself!
