The Winnipeg Jets finally revealed their logo over the weekend and the TSN personalities of the world are praising it as the best piece of artwork ever seen. The Winnipeg haters, who hate everything that is Winnipeg no matter how good it is, have panned it and called it the worst ever.
The truth is that the logo is somewhere in between. It's not a stroke of genius, but it's not awful either. It's somewhere in the middle. My whole beef when it comes to the 'new' Winnipeg Jets is that they have stumbled a little bit with a few decisions. The lack of communication with Craig Ramsay was not professional. If they didn't want the guy to be their coach, just say as much up front.
Instead, they said nothing and even gave him a token phony interview. Furthermore, when the NHL Entry Draft took place in late June, they still didn't have a logo of any kind. That was the place to reveal it. I work in a business where new logos are created every day. The fact that there wasn't a logo ready to go pretty quick after the sale of the Atlanta Thrashers is inexcusable.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders stunned the world with a 27-24 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday, proving two things: the Als are just an ordinary team when Anthony Calvillo doesn't play (he was knocked out early), and as bad as one team can look it is always important to let the game play out because you just never know. I'm even going to predict a win over Calgary this week for the Riders as it's pretty difficult to picture them starting with three straight home losses. Having said that, this is a team on the decline, so don't go gobbling up Grey Cup travel packs.
The releasing of Tad Kornegay sent a message to the inmates that they will no longer run the asylum. If Sunday's result is any indication, consider the message received. Furthermore, Darian Durant's scrambling on Sunday is proof positive that he needs to do more than just drop back and pass the football. He is incredibly dangerous when using his feet as well as his arm.
Dwight Anderson, almost singlehandedly, sabotaged the Calgary Stampeders and their chances at a Grey Cup last year. I wouldn't be shocked if he did the same in Montreal. I don't care how good he is, I would never have him on my team.
I, frequently, listen to PrimeTime Sports on The Fan 590 and I think Bob McCown is the best broadcaster in the country, bar none. However, Jeff Marek filled in for him on Friday and he has a tremendous amount of potential. The CBC let a good one get away, and for a change, Rogers has latched on to someone really talented. I hope they are paying him as such.
I see Research In Motion is cutting 2000 jobs. Blackberry has fallen way behind Android and iPhone when it comes to smart phones. I can't see how they'll ever stay in business unless they come up with something else. I hear a lot of positives about Android, but I have no complaints at all about the iPhone. I don't know what I'd do without it now that I have one.

Best wishes to Jack Layton, who is taking a leave from his leadership with the federal NDP to battle cancer. While I'm no NDP supporter, it's easy to see that Layton will fight like a tiger if his personal will is anything like his professional one.
