Unless I have to, I'm no longer getting gas in Yorkton. In all of my travels over the last few years, Yorkton is always the most expensive. Look no further than a recent price of 124.9. Let's compare shall we: Humboldt is 114.9, Regina 118.9, Dauphin 113.9, and according to Jeff Sedor, gas was selling in Swan River over the weekend for 99.9. As a suggestion to people, get a Co-op gas card. You save 3-cents a litre whenever you use it. So, Yorkton gas drops to 121.9 if you go with the Co-op card lock. Factor in the dividend, and the savings end up being around 10-cents or more most years. Of course you have to pump the gas yourself, so I'm sure that eliminates half of us citizens since we are a lazy bunch. Not to mention we are, obviously, suckers too because there isn't a reasonable reason for gas to be more here than it is anywhere else other than the fact we are willing to pay it.
Speaking of lazy, the general public was back at it in full force again on Friday night at the Gallagher Centre with the 'park as close as you can to the building no matter what' mentality. Parking in the right lane just north of the traffic light shouldn't be allowed. But, if it is, people shouldn't park there as you are facing the opposite direction to a quick escape. If someone could come up with a plan to park cars on the Gallagher Centre roof, they'd be rich.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders, as I write this, are putting the finishing touches on yet another uninspiring performance. Ken Miller gets a somewhat passing grade in this game for trying to evaluate quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie. I know there are some Rider fans who think Darian Durant should be the starter until the team is, mathematically, eliminated from playoffs; but the reality is that this Rider team died for the season three weeks ago when they lost 42-5 to BC. The problem Miller now has is because he coddles his players, he had to say Durant was injured and therefore Dinwiddie gets the start. Problem is that Dinwiddie was so bad, Durant was installed in the second half. It should've been Cole Bergquist in the second half. Give Durant the week off. At least we now know quarterback development is once again a priority for this franchise. I think they are in good hands with Durant, but it's clear Dinwiddie can't play and the Riders have no faith in Bergquist or else they would have put him in Monday's game.
While they are at it, finding a half dozen offensive linemen should be on the priority list for the offseason too. And, what about who runs this team in the front office. Surely, Miller and Brendan Taman will be shown the door. But, who's the prized prospect to take over a CFL team? Call me crazy, but Marcus Crandell as head coach wouldn't immediately bother me. As far as a General Manager goes, I have no idea.
I love the term 'mathematically possible'. Yes, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs. I also have a mathematical chance of winning a NASCAR race. Neither is happening.
I got to see the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires for the first time over the weekend. My first impression of the Mils is that Ian McNulty is a heckuva player and Alex Wakaluk may have solved their goaltending problems. For the Terriers, maybe they have issues with goaltending and they certainly lack some offensive punch.
Nickelback returns November 21st with Here and Now. For now, fans can listen to two songs to whet their appetite. "When We Stand Together" is a real nice sing along song. "Bottoms Up" is a rocker. I can't wait.
Say what you want about Nickelback, but they almost killed grunge all by themselves and for that, they should be revered.
