Dear Editor:
After 31 years, Yorkton Terry Fox Run could end.
Over the years, the Yorkton Terry Fox Run has been organized by dedicated individuals from the community. Volunteers were motivated to give back to the cause of cancer research and have been instrumental in helping bring the community together for 31 years by paying tribute to a great Canadian hero. Currently, the Yorkton Terry Fox Run does not have volunteers to keep this tradition alive. Sadly without volunteers, the legacy of Yorkton's Terry Fox Run will end after 31 years.
The Terry Fox Run Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic individual to oversee the 2013 Yorkton Terry Fox Run. The volunteer organizer must possess exceptional leadership qualities and have the ability to recruit, motivate and mobilize a volunteer team within the community. The Organizer's responsibilities include: recruiting volunteers and helping to guide committee members in preparing for the upcoming Terry Fox Run while overseeing all Run day activities. The time commitment may range from two to four hours weekly during the months leading up to the 33rd Annual Terry Fox Run Day on Sunday, September 15th.
Terry's legacy continues to affect countless people with cancer research breakthroughs not imaginable when Terry set out on his historic Marathon of Hope 33 years ago. If you wish to volunteer with a truly grassroots charity that values all contributions, and whose mission it is to help every cancer patient, please call Brandy Fingas at 306-757-1662 or email [email protected] for more information.
