Dear Editor:
In a recent plebiscite, 62 per cent of prairie wheat producers voted to continue to market their wheat through the single desk, Canadian Wheat Board. The federal government and agriculture minister Gerry Ritz have indicated that they have no intention of honoring the farmers' vote. They will pass legislation that will remove monopoly powers from the CWB.
This will weaken the CWB to the point where it will be of no benefit to farmers.
Their plan will force the will and wants of 38 per cent on a majority of 62 per cent (nearly two-thirds) and consider it democracy.
I ask the citizens of Canada, are these the actions of a fair and just government?
The present federal government and some supporters interpretations of the word "democracy" seems to be if I don't get my way, it isn't democracy.
