On Oct. 26 the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce sponsored a debate on the Canadian Wheat Board. Approximately 100 people were in attendance - CWB director Kyle Korneychuk represented the CWB and Goeff Hewson, a director of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers spoke for his 300-member organization. Written questions by those in attendance were brought to the floor and answered by both Mr. Korneychuk and Mr. Hewson.
Question submitted: Does it serve the spirit of democracy to force the wishes and wants of 38 percent on a majority 62 percent (CWB plebiscite, 62 percent voted in favour of single desk marketing)?
Mr. Hewson indirectly stated that he supported the actions taken by the Federal government.
The Canadian Wheat Board Act clearly states that grain producers must be consulted and given a vote before any major changes can be made to the CWB.
The government went ahead and is in the process of making major changes without consulting farmers.
The Federal government is breaking the law - their actions reek of dictorial tactics. Dictator Ghadaffi was so hated by his people that when he was apprehended he was executed on the spot without benefit of judge or jury.
I will concede that Mr. Harper and Mr. Ritz are not near as bad as Ghadaffi. They obviously are only power mad, but give them enough time and leeway and who knows how far they will go in that direction.
