Letter to the Editor - Chamber was present at Council

Dear Editor:

In the Stackhouse Soapbox column appearing in the December 5 edition of Yorkton This Week, Mr. Stackhouse stated that it was his "understanding" that the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce was not present at the December 3 meeting of Yorkton City Council. I would like to set the record straight. The Yorkton Chamber was indeed present, represented by Tom Seeley, a director of the Chamber.

Since 2010, one of the Chamber Board's priorities has been to attend every Council meeting. Directors take turns attending the meetings. If no Director is available, then I attend the meetings on their behalf. In fact, the Chamber missed only one meeting in 2011 and only one in 2012 - that being the February 13 meeting of Council.

In regard to Proposed Bylaw No.31/2012, the Board of the Chamber is keenly interested in this proposed change. As the Chamber indicated to Council at the November 19 meeting, the Chamber urged Council to defer making a decision on the Bylaw until the completion of a full study that investigates the impact of the closure on the neighbouring residents, neighbouring businesses, traffic flow, noise level and Bylaw No. 14/2003 (the Beautification Bylaw).
