Letter to the Editor - Brick Mill group given pat on back

Dear Editor: I've been looking for a positive news story to begin the year and I would have to say I think I've found one.

Dear Editor:

I've been looking for a positive news story to begin the year and I would have to say I think I've found one. I would like to make a few comments regarding the article "Receipts for Mill Donations" by Calvin Daniels printed in the January 16, 2013 issue of Yorkton This Week. First of all, I would like to congratulate the Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society for all the progress they've made so far regarding their efforts to save and preserve the mill. Secondly, I would like to congratulate Yorkton City Council on passing a resolution agreeing to issue tax receipts for donations that will go toward preserving the mill. This is forward, positive thinking and a nice gesture on their part. I'm sure that we all want to see the Mill Society succeed in their efforts and this means full support and co-operation of all involved. It is, after all, the only brick mill and one of only three mills left in the province and therefore of great value. It is a wonderful, old heritage building that should be preserved. Many other communities would love to have a tourist draw such as this and we all know Yorkton needs a wide variety of these. Councillor Fisher shouldn't see the decision by City Council as "premature". All projects have to start somewhere. It would be like not supporting the proposed Trades and Technology Centre - or the proposed new hospital because we would think it would be "premature" to do so. In communities, everyone has to work together for things to run smoothly.

It is of my opinion that Yorkton is the type of community where we all look out for and support each other. It is, after all, supposed to be a place "where good things happen". Everywhere I go in town I see happy, positive, courteous, friendly, optimistic people and smiles all around. Happy New Year everyone.
